Cake Trends for 2012

Your wedding is not complete until you have a cake, or cupcakes. A bride wants her cake to be as beautiful as she is. Having everyone's  mouth water at the sight of the cake.

Wedding cakes decorated with handmade icing flowers, shells/starfish and delicate dots and scroll work remain popular. Couples should be choosing cakes that will fit the theme and season of their wedding. Four to five layers is the average size for a wedding of 150-200 people.

Butter cream or smooth fondant frostings are most common. People are starting to realize that fondant does not taste as good as butter cream, making butter cream more in demand in recent years. Popular cake flavors include lemon, chocolate, carrot, spice and "white" although some couples are choosing non-traditional flavors such as gingerbread, espresso and hazelnut. Flowers, sculptures, and large monogrammed letters are replacing the traditional bride and groom cake top.

But the fastest growing trend is the cupcake. This trend is going strong and with out a doubt will continue to be very popular throughout the years to come.
